Created and run by UGA students, the Small Satellite Research lab at the University of Georgia creates small-scale sattelites to send into orbit. Since its founding in 2016 it has been creating new research and increasing student involvment.
In 2019 I was brought in to the lab and was asked to work on thier website.
Design/ Development
The lab was happy with their current website but after meeting with lab members I saw that they were missing some things. The lab was constantly changing, new research was being produced and students were leaving and being recruited year-round. Based on this I mainly worked on two pages for the website, a page to view the labs research and a page to view students currently in the lab and alumni who had worked in the lab. Later on i was asked to make and events page as well.
I started by sketching out ideas for the layout of these pages. Then I moved on to wireframing. When it came time to make higher fidelity mockups, I used the currently existing site as a guideline for what colors and typefaces should be used.
Since these pages needed regular updating, I developed it so that members without web development knowledge could easily update it. I did this by generating the links from a JSON file where members could just add the paths to images and documents, as well as the title, auther, and sub information.

I tried a couple different styles for the links on the research page but decided simple was best in this case

After finishing these pages I worked on the rest of the site, organizing what they already had into easier to read hierarchies.

The lab was very happy with what I had made for them. They continue to use and update these pages with the tools i made for them
